Accra, Dec. 22, GNA - Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs on Wednesday completed the first phase of their journey back to the Premiership by defeating Gold Stars 2-1 in a Sub-Middle League match played at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium in Accra.
Dwarfs have therefore qualified for the National Middle League scheduled for next year after amassing five points from the three games in Zone Two "B" of the competition.
After playing a drawn game in their last match with Wise Fighters at the same venue last Monday, the Cape Coast lads were poised to carry the day and invaded the area of Gold Stars on several occasions in search of the opener.
This however did not materialise as they squandered series of begging chances that came their way with the orst offenders being Douglas Mustapha, Michael Amissah and Ekow Ghansah.
With just a minute to end the first half, Mustapha made amends by diving to head home a cross from overlapping Felix Sackey. Dwarfs increased the tally less than one minute into the second half through Mustapha who once again connected home a cross from Ghansah. Complacency however set into their game after the second goal and thus the Gold Stars players capitalised on and subjected them to severe pressure to pull a goal back in the 52nd minute through Joshua Aikins. From then on Dwarfs had to live on tenterhooks for the rest of the half, though they could have made it three after Anthony Davies had dribbled the entire defence of Gold Stars but shot into the waiting hands of goalkeeper Joseph Owusu in the 75th minute.
The scanty fans at the stadium alleged to be fans of Dwarfs nearly marred the progress of the game when they invaded the tartan tracks in an attempt to attack referee John Atikesse for disallowing what they perceived to be a penalty, but were stopped by the security personnel at the stadium.
Dwarfs managed to hold unto their guards till the full 90 minutes to ensure their qualification into the National Middle League.
