Edwin Gyasi gives middle finger to racists fans

Ghanaian attacker Edwin Gyasi admitted he was annoyed by Heracles Almelo fans who racially targeted him with monkey chants and he showed them his middle fingers.

The 24-year-old was facing Heracles – his former club, for the first time since leaving the team last season and he scored Roda JC’s opener in the 35th minute before crashing the crossbar with a steering header and later setting up Tom van Hyfte for the newly-promoted side.

Gyasi was targeted by the travelling fans as they continuously booed him and they reached the climax of their disgusting attitudes when they made monkey noise at him.

The Dutch-born, whose junior brother Raymond Gyasi was capped by Ghana’s U23 side two months ago, responded to the ugly attitude of the visiting fans with a clinical finish before racing to face the fans to make insulting gestures at them by showing them his middle fingers.

He risk a ban from the Dutch Federation but Gyasi has admitted being angered by Heracles fans.

“They were making annoying sounds to me, monkey noises,” he said in the post-match interview.

Gyasi recounts a bitter experience at Heracles two seasons ago: “I let my head hang soon, because I did not play. The second season it was a bit better, but the chance never came. And, Roda gave me the chance to play here and I’m working for it.”

He reveals his father talking to him before the game: “My father told me that even before the game I had to score. I’d waited a long time for this game. I did not have a good time at Heracles due to a variety of reasons, but today I proved them otherwise. Therefore I was tremendously anxious,” he revealed.”
