Huddersfield Town winger former Dutch youth international Elvis Manu is targeting a call-up by Ghana – but knows he must get his club career back on track to earn a Black Stars place.

The on-loan Brighton player has represented Holland, his country of birth, from Under 16 through to Under 21 level.

However, the ex-Feyenoord forward has Ghanaian heritage, and after being contacted by the country’s football bosses, has switched nationality.

Manu has missed out on former Chelsea manager Avram Grant’s squad for the home and away Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique.

Ghana’s next game is a qualifier in Mauritius in June, and there are eight Town matches between now and then, but Manu’s five Town appearances have all been from the bench, most recently in the 2-0 league defeat at Derby.

The 22-year-old was left out of the squad for the home game against Reading because of an internal disciplinary matter and he was unavailable for last Saturday’s 4-1 derby win at Leeds.

“I am pleased I have got some playing time, and of course I want more, but that’s the manager’s decision,” he said.

“I wasn’t getting much playing time at Brighton, but by getting into the team at Huddersfield, my chances would improve.”
