Daniel Opare’s dreams of Europa League success with Turkish side Besiktas went into the smokes on Thursday night as they got eliminated from the competition by Belgian outfit Club Brugge.
Opare played 71 minutes as his ten-man Besiktas side succumbed to a 3-1 home defeat to exit the competition on a 5-2 aggregate loss.
Opare’s side were hoping for a positive results against Brugge after losing narrowly in the first-leg.
But Club Brugge made it to the quarter-finals of a UEFA competition for the first time in 20 years as they came from behind again against Besiktas JK to win in Istanbul.
Having been down in Belgium last week before earning a first-leg advantage they did the same in Turkey after going behind to a Ramon Motta thunderbolt.
However, the Belgian First League leaders did not panic and Tom De Sutter’s second of the tie brought them level before Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo’s late double sent Michel Preud’homme’s side through.
Opare was booked in the 36th minute mark for a bad tackle on an opponent.
