The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association today confirmed to Congress that the mandate of the Eastern Region Football Association has been extended.

A Court injunction by Hikari SC, a member of the Eastern Regional Football Association stalled the election to select for the position of Chairman and onto the GFA Ex.Co last week.

Addressing the opening day of the two-day Ordinary Session of Congress, President of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi announced the extension, pending the outcome of the court ruling.

"A member of the Eastern Region Football Association, Hikari SC has taken issues about the election to the ordinary law court. Until the issues are fully determined we cannot proceed to hold elections in the Eastern Region," he told Congress on Thursday in Prampram.

"In the interim, the Executive Committee has decided to extend the mandate of the Executive Committee in the Eastern Region pending the resolution of the legal issues, conduct of elections and the swearing in of a new chairman."

Lawal Abdul Ganiyu and Nana Kwadwo Budu II were to contest to represent the region on the GFA Executive Committee.
