Drug and Food items valued at nine-point one billion cedis have been destroyed by the Food and Drugs Board in Kumasi. The items which ranged from fruit juices, bottled drinks and medical drugs were found to be either unwholesome or expired. Speaking to the press before the items were set on fire at the Kumasi Landfill site, the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regional zonal officer of the Food and Drugs Board Mr. Joseph Bennie noted that the exercise forms part of the board?s aim of protecting consumers from unwholesome products.

According to him, they conduct routine inspections at the various marketing outlets operating in consumable products to ascertain whether they are good for public consumption or not.

Mr. Bennie disclosed that some of the drugs seized were fake drugs which had no proper identification. He advised the public to be extra vigilant when buying consumable goods to make sure they don?t fall victim to expired drugs or food.
