Thu, 12 Jun 2003 Source:

World football governing body FIFA has postponed Saturday's Olympic qualifier between Liberia and Ghana in Monrovia.

A new date for the tie is yet to be fixed.

Fifa took the decision after the Ghana Football Association raised concerns about the security situation in Liberia.

There was heavy fighting around Monrovia since the beginning of this week.

The Ghana government has sent aircraft and ships to evacuate Ghanaians resident in Monrovia.

It is the second time within a year that Liberia are billed to play Ghana at Under-23 level.

Ghana qualified for October's All-African Games football tournament, after Liberia pulled out of the final qualifying leg as a result of financial problems.

Africa's first Olympic football medal winners - winning bronze at Barcelona '92 - Ghana hope to re-emerge at the Athens games after missing the 2000 edition in Sydney.
