Former Heart of Lions coach Paa Kwesi Fabin has slammed media reports quoting him to have said he left the club over pressure from management to fix a match.
The current Ghana under-17 manager, who left the Kpando-based side in 2011, was earlier reported by local media to have made claims of being asked to throw away a league game with Liberty Professionals during his time with the club.
“I always tell clubs I don’t [engage in] match fixing,” he was earlier quoted as saying by Global Sports.
“That was why I left Lions then. They [Lions] were in fine form and we were playing against Liberty who were then fighting relegation. I was approached by our administrators and I refused. If you remember, I didn’t sit on the bench for that game.”
However, speaking to Gazzetta Ghana, the former Inter Allies coach debunked the reports and called on all and sundry to treat the story with disdain.
“People should rubbish the story that I left Heart of Lions because I was asked to fix matches,” he said.“I don’t want to even comment on that.”
Interestingly, Fabin was in charge of Ghana’s under-17 side that were disqualified by Caf from the 2015 Africa Under-17 Championship for fielding an overaged player during the qualifiers.
