Owvein, Delta State, Nov 10, GNA - Ghana's Black Queens go into action against the Super Falcons of Nigeria on Saturday in a task Skipper Adjoa Bayor says is surmountable.
The Queens will be making a fifth attempt at gold and the creative genius insists the chances are even, ahead of the game bookmakers have tipped the Nigerians who have won all previous four events.
Bayor however told the GNA Sports in Owvien that 'everyone believes the Nigerians are invincible but what they are forgetting is that football does not follow logic'.
The Ghanaians remain the only team in Africa to have beaten the Nigerians before in a match.
The Queens pushed a 1-0 bitter pill down the throats of the Falcons in their 2002 event when both sides met at the group stage of the competition.
The Nigerians, however, beat Ghana 2-0 when they met at the finals of the competition at the Warri City Stadium to lift the trophy for keeps.
Bayor said the team will ride on the usual rivalry that exits between the two West Africans nations and will attempt to pull a pleasant surprise.
'Regardless of the Falcons form at the moment, they have lots of respect for us because of our previous meetings and the usual rivalry that exits between us'.
She said the focus of the team will be for them to play it simple and utilize their chances in their quest to lift the trophy for the first time.
Both teams will represent Africa at the next FIFA World Cup slated for the Republic of China in 2007.
The skilful player said her major concern was thay the Queens who are yet to exert themselves and exhibit their true capabilities will find their spark against the free scoring Falcons.
Whilst the Queens have scored seven times in four games, the Nigerians have found the net 17 times with both teams conceding two goals each.
Bayor said matches between the two countries never follow a set pattern insisting it will therefore be needless for anyone to write the Queens off.
Saturday will be the third time both countries will be meeting at this stage. 10 Nov. 06
