The chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, George Afriyie, has said he does not expect a low turnout at the Accra Sports Stadium if the Black Stars honour their next game at the 40,000-seater capacity edifice.

The national football team will face off with Mauritius on June 14 in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Pundits are of the view that Accra fans hardly go to the stadium hence if the Ghana FA decides to stage the game in Accra there will be a low turnout.

Following the Black Stars silver medal finish at the 2015 Afcon, Afriyie believes fans in Accra would want to throng to the Accra Sports Stadium to watch the four-time African champions.

“I am sure you will agree with me that anywhere the Black Stars play, we have always had a massive turn up irrespective of the circumstances, I have no doubt that if we play the matches in Accra we will still enjoy the support of the fans,” Afriyie told Starr Sports.

He added: “Don’t forget that after the team performed so well at Afcon, Ghanaians are yet to see their players play on Ghana soil after Afcon. The last time Black Stars played in the Accra Sports Stadium was about 4-5 years now and so I am positive that Ghanaians are going to turn up in their numbers to support the team.”
