Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda made his full competitive debut for Orlando Pirates in their 1-0 defeat to Polokwane City on Saturday.
The Black Stars first choice made his long awaited competitive start for the Bucs since joining the club at the beginning of the season.
It was however not the dream debut the 28-year-old had wished for as his side went down 1-0 at Polokwane City.
The goal scored by Sipho Jembule in the 27th minute was as a result of miscommunication between Dauda and his defender Thabo Matlaba, as he came out rushing for the ball which eventually ended up in his net.
The ex-AshantiGold shot-stopper however lost his nerves as the game wore on to make some spectacular saves to keep his side in the game.
Pirates, playing under new coach Vladimir Vermezovic failed to convert chances created to ultimately lose the game.
Dauda’s good showing on his competitive debut will however be a major positive drawn from the defeat.
The Black Stars goalkeeper has had to play second fiddle to Senzo Meyiwa since arriving last year but could be set to be the new no.1 if his performance on Saturday was good enough to catch the eye of coach Verzemovic.
