Fifa president Blatter confident of Nyantakyi WAFU success

Fifa president Sepp Blatter has hailed Kwesi Nyantakyi’s election as the interim WAFU president insisting the Ghanaian will succeed in his new position.

The president of the Ghana FA was elected on temporary basis as the leader of the West Africa Football Union during Saturday’s election in Banjul. Nyantakyi has steered Ghana football in the path of success following two successful World Cup appearances and the U20 World Cup title – the first in Africa In a congratulatory message on his latest position, Blatter is confident the Ghanaian will excel in his WAFU post.

“Following your election to the interim presidency of the West Africa Football Union, I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to you for this achievement and wish you every success at the helm of West African football for many years to come,” Blatter said in the message to Nyantakyi.

“Your many years of experience in the pyramid of football will undoubtedly be a huge asset and will help you to accomplish this exciting and complex mission. “I am convinced that you will continue to preserve and defend the values of our game with the same determination as you have done in the past.

“I wish you strength, health and every success for the challenges that lie ahead.” Nyantakyi’s first challenge at the helm of WAFU is the organisation of the WAFU Cup of Nations which is scheduled for Nigeria next month.
