Football fans cautioned against blame game

Kumasi, Sept 14, GNA - Ghanaian football fans have been asked to be cautious in drawing conclusions about the 0-5 humiliating defeat of the Black Stars by Saudi Arabia in their friendly match this week. "They should stop the blame game and be supportive of the team to help them make amends in future matches and competitions".

Mr Joe Aggrey, former Deputy Minster of Youth and Sports and veteran sports journalist gave the advice in an interview with the GNA Sports in Kumasi on Thursday.

He said in as much as the defeat was painful, the match also served as a healthy exercise as it exposed the weaknesses in the team. "The defeat has demonstrated that all was not well with the Black Stars and that we need to work harder to reach an appreciable standard in world football", he stated.

Mr Aggrey impressed upon officials, management and players of the team to shun complacency and put behind them the successes the nation achieved in last year's World Cup whilst "We looked ahead for new challenges".

This, he said, was crucial to ensuring that the Stars consolidate their newly-found form in the wake of the African Cup of Nations which would be hosted by Ghana next year.
