Sunyani April 3, GNA - Four regular players of Brong-Ahafo United football Club were on Monday arraigned before a Sunyani Magistrate's Court 'B' for allegedly beating up Alex Odenkey, a colleague player over a bribery rumour.
Three of the accused, Kwasi Boateng, Ibrahim Adams and Awudu Moro pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit crime, assault and causing harm whilst Alhaji Abass pleaded guilty with explanation. They were all remanded into prison custody to reappear on April 12, this year.
Chief Inspector E.T. Boison, the prosecutor told the court presided by Mr. Albert Zoogah that on March 30 this year the Club lost their match against Tema Youth Football Club at Cape Coast in the just ended Middle League.
He said rumours circulated after the match that the accused collected bribes and that resulted in the team's defeat. The accused, on hearing the rumours suspected the complainant of spreading the rumour and they conspired "to teach him sense". The prosecutor said the accused went in search of Odenkey and when they located him at New Town in Sunyani they subjected him to severe beatings.
Chief Inspector Boison said Odenkey who was rescued by some people later reported the matter to the Police and he was issued with a medical report to attend hospital.
