Four teams qualify for Eastern Regional Second Division Middle league

Koforidua, (E/R) July 27, GNA - Four teams have qualified for this year's Eastern Regional Second Division Middle League after the first half of the league ended on Sunday.

The four top teams, Dawu Sporting Club, Akosombo Sparks F/C, Amasaman Bright Future and Odwen-Anoma F/C qualified after being the tops in their groups.

The 12 Clubs which participated in the first half of the tournament were four zones with three clubs each and participated in an all-play-all basis with the winners of the group qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.

Mr Solomon Yamoah, Secretary of the Eastern Regional Football Association, said the four clubs that had qualified for the four zones would also engage in an all play all league starting from Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Koforidua Sports Stadium. He said two matches would be played on each day from 08.00 a.m to 12.00 noon with the Clubs resting for a day after each match. Mr Yamoah, a former FIFA referee said the tournament would end on Saturday, August 2, after which the winners of the top four league would be submitted to the Division One League Board to be selected to join the 2008/2009 Division One League. The Secretary explained that 16 clubs had initially qualified from the eight zones of the Regional Football League but four of them failed to fulfill the tournament's obligations and failed to report for the tournament. The four clubs are Akim Oda Fenhac F/C, Kukurantumi Hikari F/C, Nkawkaw Crystal Palace and New Abirim Kyiretwie F/C. In Group One Asamankese Evergreens were spanked 0-5 by Dawu Sporting Club, Techiman Istanbul beat Evergreens 2-0, while Sporting Club drew 0-0 with Istanbul. Tafo Fanteakwa F/C beat Akosombo Sparks F/C 1-0, Sparks beat Nsawam Future Stars 2-0 and Fanteakwa lost 0-1 with Future Stars in Group Two. In group three, Somanya Gate F/C drew 0-0 with Amasaman Bright Future F/C, Bright Future beat Asene Peace Babies 2-1 while Peace Babies drew 1-1 with Gate F/C. In Group Four, Asuokor Youngsters F/C beat Aburi Highlanders 2-1, Odwen-Anoma F/C drew 0-0 with Asuokor Youngsters and Odwen-Anoma F/C had a walk over Highlanders.
