Frank Nelson says they are not ready

Hearts of Oak board member Frank Nelson believes the club is not yet ready to stage a return to Africa this season.

The Phobians have qualified as one of two representatives of Ghana for next season’s CAF Confederations Cup after finishing fourth in the Premier League.

The huge financial burden that comes with qualifying for CAF inter-club competitions makes it highly unattractive for Ghanaian teams.

And Hearts board member Frank Nelson believes the club’s inferior financial status coupled with lacking logistics and quality personnel puts them at a disadvantage once they decide to compete in Africa.

“We still need to do thorough analyses before arriving at a decision to go to Africa,” he said. “I personal believe we are not ready for Africa yet and if anything we should concentrate on the league.

“I don’t think we have a strong enough team back by strong enough finances to compete favourably against the best teams in Africa.”

Hearts last competed in Africa back in 2008 where they failed to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
