Tamale, Nov. 12, GNA - Veterans in the Northern Region would receive free tickets to watch matches during the CAN 2008 tournament in the Tamale venue in recognition of their contribution to the nation's development.

Mr. Mohammed Amin Adam, Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) announced this in Tamale at the weekend at the "Remembrance Day" parade in commemoration of the fallen heroes during the World War II (WWII). "I wish to make a pledge that during the tournament, we would reserve five VIP tickets for your leadership to sit with the President or who ever would be coming to watch the tournament while additional tickets would be bought for the rest of you who would be given ordinary tickets to watch the tournament." He said. Mr. Adam said the contribution of the Ex-Service men and women to the nation's development and security could not be quantified and that the nation still owed them a debt of gratitude and would always accord them the needed respect.

He appealed to them to use their expertise to help make the hosting of the CAN 2008 tournament in Tamale a success. Mr. Adam expressed worry about the springing up of kiosks at the old Kaladan barracks, which, he said, was turning the place into a slum and called for measures to preserve the place as a tourist attraction. He said the springing of the unauthorised structures in the barracks was unpalatable to the city authorities saying that information reaching the Metropolitan Assembly indicated that some Ex-Service persons were condoning the practice at the old Kaladan barracks. 12 Nov. 07
