Ghana’s new midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong is confident the Black Stars will qualify for the 2014 World Cup after thrashing Sudan 4-0 on Sunday.

The 21-year-old, who was making his debut for the West African country in Sunday’s game, played in the second half as Ghana cruised to an impressive victory.

Goals from Asamoah Gyan, Wakaso Mubarak, Abdul Majeed Waris and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu wrapped all three points for Ghana.

Despite the emphatic win for Ghana, Frimpong says the victory of the Nile Crocodiles was not a stroll in the park for the Black Stars.

“It is a very good result for us today. It was a tough game but we kept our focus and worked hard,” Frimpong said.

“We all knew what was at stake and as long as we can keep working and our focus, we will be in Brazil.”

Ghana will be required to win the three remaining duels with Sudan and Lesotho away, and the epic meeting with Zambia at home to make an entry into the last tier of the qualifiers which will be a crucial two-leg affair.

The win leaves Appiah’s side in a good position to qualify for the third round ahead of the next set of fixtures in June.

The Black Stars remained second in Group D with six points, just one point behind leaders Zambia, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Lesotho.

The group winners will advance to a decisive two-legged playoff that will determine Africa’s five representatives at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
