Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi says Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has pledged his international future to the Black Stars.
Frimpong, 19, was born in Ghana but moved to North London as a youngster and has represented England at youth level.
He received his first England Under-21 call-up last month, but he withdrew from the squad as a result of a foot injury and there was speculation in Ghana that he had decided to pledge his future to the country of his birth.
Frimpong headed to Craven Cottage on Monday night to watch Ghana's 1-0 defeat to Brazil - "Going to support the Black Stars DEEEEEENCH," he tweeted - and, during a meeting after the game, he made clear his intentions.
"Yesterday we met him after the game at Fulham at a hotel," Nyantakyi told The Guardian. "He wants to play for Ghana. We have to apply to FIFA now - send them the documentation and wait.
"It is out of my hands how long they will take, but with my experience [of these matters] I expect no longer than three months and it will probably be shorter than that."
Ghana boss Goran Stevanovic said he also spoke to Frimpong after Monday's match.
"I am very interested in him," Stevanovic said. "He is a good player. He plays for Arsenal. They are a good club. Everything is possible. I wanted to speak to him to give him my vision of the future of the game."
On Tuesday afternoon, Frimpong added on his Twitter account: "I have Done My Part For the Love of The country Now Lets Wait and See The Outcome......"
