The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has been cited for contempt at the High Court for sanctioning the AIDS Cup match between city rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics.
The contempt case is at the instance of one faction of Olympics, who are in court over management power struggle. The management team appointed by the board of Olympics alleges in the motion that the court had placed an injunction on the match and, therfore, it was wrong for the GFA to sanction it.
Olympics have been involved in a management struggle between two factions each of whom is claiming the right to steer the club. Hearts beat Olympics 2-0 on Sunday, February 29 to win the AIDS Cup, organised by the Ghana AIDS Commission.
At the court?s sitting in Accra yesterday, Justice Mrs F. Owusu-Arhin adjourned hearing to tomorrow. When the case is called tomorrow, the court will also be hearing the motion filed by majority shareholder in Olympics, Ernest Apatu Plange, which seeks a court order to restrain the management appointed by the board from holding themselves as such.
The motion was counter to one filed earlier by Accra Great Olympics represented by the board-appointed management, which also seeks to a court order to restrain the other management faction appointed by Apatu Plange from holding themselves as such.
Before hearing began at yesterday?s sitting, during which the court premises was besieged by a large number of Olympics supporters, counsels for the two parties met the trial judge in camera for about thirty minutes.
