GFA cuts sod for FIFA Goal IV Project

Accra, Aug. 5, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Friday cut the sod for the construction of a classroom unit and office complex at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram in the Dangme West District of the Greater Accra Region.

The facility is being funded by world soccer governing body, the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) through their Goal Project Programme earmarked for National Associations. The Project which consists of a six-unit classroom block with offices, a research library and a training pitch is the nation's benefit for the attainment of the FIFA Goal IV status.

The facility which costs 400,000 dollars is due for completion in seve= n months time. Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports who cut the sod for the Project, said the facilities would play a vital role in the development of the game at the grassroots level which he said is in tandem with President John Evans Atta Mills vision for juvenile football development. He commended FIFA for the initiative to support its members with such laudable projects.

Sampon Kablan, the FIFA Development Officer for West Africa, mentioned Ghana as one of the countries in Africa that has made the best of the FIFA Goal Projects, attributing it to the judicious usage of the resources by th= e GFA. In attendance were the GFA President, Kwesi Nyantakyi and members of the Executive Committee.

Ghana is the third African country after Cape Verde and Cote d'Ivoir= e to benefit from the FIFA Goal IV Project. Goal One was used for the construction of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre o= f Excellence, Goal Two was for a hostel facility and pitches whilst the Goal Three was channeled for a multipurpose dinning hall complex.
