GFA defends congress date

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has defended the association’s decision to delay the much-awaited congress until 12 December, 2016.

According to the Communications Director, who doubles as the Deputy General Secretary of the association, the FA had to sort out its books to ensure that all the necessary documentation were in place for a smooth event.

“Given the circumstances that we have, if your auditors have not finished auditing your accounts, the processes are not within your control. You cannot push an auditor to finish his work at a particular time. If he wants more time, you give him more time,” he told Class Sports.

“You people (journalists) have accused us of not being transparent and as we are working hard in that direction and you are complaining of a delay in the process. Granted we make it to congress and the accounts are not ready, you will be the same people who will take us to the cleaners and we want to avoid that.”

All delegates are expected to convene at a yet-to-be-decided venue on 12 December to review the activity report for the just-ended football season and to usher in the new season.

This is in accordance with Article 23.3.1 of the GFA statutes, which states: "The GFA Congress shall meet in ordinary session once every football season, normally before the commencement of the season."
