Accra, March 2, GNA - President of Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has saluted headline sponsors of the Black Stars, Goldfields for supporting the team financially towards the impending World Cup qualifiers. The second phase of the South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifiers commences later in the month and the President says the financial backbone provided by the Miners would positively shape the team's quest.
He said his outfit is convinced the support will be critical as Ghana prepares to take on Benin, Mali and Sudan in search of the single slot for the quadrennial fiesta. The GFA and the Black Stars by extension currently enjoy tremendous financial support from the corporate community with over three million dollars being pumped into activities of the "Team A" annually. Nyantakyi said "we recognize the contributions of our cherished corporate partners and stakeholders in our quest to achieve excellence on the field which will in the process bring joy to millions of Ghanaians as the nation experienced during our maiden participation in the Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup."
The Stars have five major sponsors and Goldfields Ghana which provides the bulk of the financial support remains the headline sponsor. The President said it is his hope that "our corporate sponsors have met their objectives and in the process enhanced the Ghanaian's belief in the Black Stars which remains the symbol of our passion and national sporting pride."
