Accra, April 12, GNA - The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has said the current erroneous impressions created in the minds of the football fraternity on the Association is as a result of misinformation and distortion of facts by some people.

"The distortions and misinformation are being done by people either from their own point of ignorance or mischief".

A statement signed by Kofi Nsiah, General Secretary of the GFA copied to the GNA Sports stated that the GFA has taken a strong exception of those deliberately distorting the facts concerning the FA with the aim of ridiculing the association and its officers.

The statement said the GFA like other associations is always focused on lessening the gap between the ideals that informed its establishment and the realities that confronts it daily and would therefore appreciate constructive criticisms and suggestions.

The current statutes of the GFA prescribes structure which comprises the Congress, as the highest and supreme organ of the Association (Legislative), the Executive Council, responsible for the general administration of the Association (Executive), the Management Board which serves as the executing organ of the Executive council and the Secretariat which is responsible to the Management Board for organizing the day to day activities of the Association.

It said the Congress, the highest decision making body of the GFA under Article 19 of the current GFA statutes has the power to the exclusion of any body to amend the statues and therefore appointed a Five-man Committee to initiate the process of restructuring Ghana football in conformity with the FIFA directive.
The statement added that, Congress by its action has not in any way usurped the powers of the management board in the endorsement of the five-man committee especially when the members of the management board are members of both the Executive Council and Congress with voting rights.
The statement noted that, the executive committees of various national associations serve as the executive arm of their FA and the management board was an internal creation to improve governance of football in Ghana.
The statement recalled that FIFA only directed that the GFA structure should be streamlined and simplified with a four-power system namely the Legislative, Executive Committee, Administrative and Judicial.
The GFA therefore called on all and sundry not to hesitate to seek the right information on the current happenings from the GFA secretariat so as not to muddy the waters when making public statements.
