THE Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has taken up the responsibility to re-install the inner perimeter fencing at the Koforidua Stadium to ensure the safety of match officials during the impending premier league season.

The project which has been estimated at ?80m will be undertaken by an Accra-based contracting firm, Furtunate Limited.

Mr Kudjoe Fianoo, the Administrative Manager of GHALCA, who disclosed this to the Graphic in an interview yesterday indicated that work on the project is expected to get underway immediately after the GHALCA executive gives the signal.

He revealed that the contractors have already furnished them with the quotation on the renovation and that the GHALCA executive were to meet yesterday to finalise it. Mr Fianoo was, however, optimistic that work would be completed before Sunday's crucial derby between Maxbees and Power FC since both GHALCA and the contractors are committed to the task. According to him, the contractors have indicated their preparedness to finish the work in three days.

He noted that the GHALCA is prepared to provide similar facilities at the other league centres to ensure an incident-free competition provided other stakeholders like the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and National Sports Council (NSC) will put in place the modalities to enable them recoup their investment. He stressed on the need for soccer fans to comport themselves as the security agencies have been empowered to arrest and prosecute anybody who falls foul with the law.

While appealing to match officials to live above reproach this time around, he also entreated club officials to desist from the practice of inducing referees to influence results of matches in their favour.

He, however, hinted that RTU and Hasaacas will temporarily adopt the Bolga and Cape Coast as their new home grounds due to the rehabilitation works to be undertaken at the Kaladan and Gyandu parks.

The administrative manager urged the various clubs to put in place the necessary structures to ensure an attractive and exciting season which will entice new sponsors.
