Accra, June 19, GNA 96 Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) has honoured a promise it made to the senior national team, the Black Stars before they enplaned to Germany for the World Cup when on Wednesday they presented a cheque of 200 million cedis to the team.

Mr Charles Darko, Marketing Manager of GOIL said the presentation of the amount to the team is to acknowledge their qualification to the second round of the competition as the only team among the five African Representatives a the Mundial.

GOIL before the Stars left for the World Cup, made a promise to the team to pay 100 million cedis for every match won and 200 million cedis if they progress from the first round.

Mr Darko said GOIl has already presented 400 million cedis to the team, which is made up of three hundred million to help the team in their preparation for the World Cup and 100 million for their win against the Czech Republic in their second match.

The Marketing Manager promised that the company will in the coming weeks pay the outstanding 100 million cedis being the promise they made for the team's win against the USA.

He said the respect and honour brought the nation by the wonderful performance of the Stars in Germany is a feat that has no equal in the 50 years post independence life of the country.

Mr Darko said with the type of marketing that Ghana has enjoyed through the success of the Stars it will most definitely have a ripple effect on corporate Ghana and that his company was grateful to be associated with such a team.

He said the donation to the Stars will not end their association with Ghana football as they are prepared to put in their widow's might to help any worthwhile project that will help develop the game in the country.

Papa Owusu Ankomah, Minister of Education, Science and Sports received the cheque and promised GOIL that the money will be put to good use.

The minister said gone were the days where the football association practised a closed door policy where stakeholders were not allowed to scrutinise financial deals to ensure that monies given are used for the intended purpose.

He promised GOIL that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in a new era of openness and transparency and any money given would be duly accounted for.

Mr Kwesi Nyantekyi, President of the GFA thanked GOIL for the presentation and further made an appeal to the company to come on board not only to join to celebrate the wins of the team but to help in the development and grooming of new players to help replace the present generation.

He said such a venture will not only bring about satisfaction of being part of the success of the team but also be instrumental in the formation of the building blocks of such a success. 19 July 06
