2011 Premier League champions Berekum Chelsea staged a stirring second half comeback to beat Hearts of Oak 4-2 in Sekondi on match day 2 of the ongoing First Capital Plus Premier League.
Chelsea drew first blood in the first minute through Stephen Baffour, but Gilbert Fiamenyo hit a double to see Hearts of Oak lead 2-1 at half time.
New signing Kofi Owusu leveled for Berekum Chelsea in the second half and Baffour scored not long after that to restore Chelsea’s lead. Bennett Ofori scored late on to hand Berekum Chelsea a memorable victory over Hearts of Oak.
Defending champions Asante Kotoko was held to a 2-2 draw by Hasaacas in Kumasi.
Left back Emmanuel Asante scored on his debut for the Porcupine Warriors as early as the fifth minute, but Amos Korankye leveled for the visitors with a well taken free kick.
Emmanuel Ankobeah then put Hasaacas with a strike before half time, before Dauda Mohammed restored parity on the hour mark for Asante Kotoko.
Ashanti Gold maintained its 100% start to the season with a 1-0 win over West African Football Academy (WAFA) in Sogakope. Namibian import Petrus Shitembi scored the game’s only goal in the first half as the Miners take six points out of six.
Great Olympics had to stage a comeback to defeat in form Heart of Lions 3-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium. Isaac Quansah put Heart of Lions ahead early on, but ex-Asante Kotoko midfielder Godfred Asante leveled for the hosts. Usman Muntaka restored the visitors’ lead, but two quick goals by Kwame Boateng won the game for Great Olympics.
Kennedy Ashia was twice on target as Liberty Professionals beat B.A. United 2-0 in Dansoman, whilst Aminu Mohammed scored the game’s only goal as Bechem United beat Inter Allies 1-0.
Medeama SC drew 0-0 with Wa All Stars in Tarkwa, whilst New Edubiase United drew 1-1 with Aduana Stars in Obuasi, with Bernard Ofori and Elvis Opoku on target for the hosts and visitors respectively.
