Gambia'05: Starlets to play in three different kits

Banjul, Gambia, May 10, GNA - The National Under 17 team, the Black Starlets will have to use three different sets of kits belonging to different kit manufacturing companies during the on-going Sixth Africa Under-17, Tournament in Gambia.

The jerseys, eight sets in all together with other kits, includes supplies from Lotto, Adidas and an unknown brand Millano, most of whom arrived a day after the commencement of the event.

The situation is as a result of he non availability of kits sponsors for the team in the competition. Mr Richard Quarshie, a member of the delegation told the GNA Sports that the jerseys were bought for the team because it has no official sponsors and they had no option than to adopt that strategy. The Starlets, in their first match used a lotto designed jersey and made a change in the second game using Adidas designed jerseys.

Ghana has for the past years being grappling with the issue of kit sponsorship as none of the national teams have recognised kits sponsors.

Mr Kwesi Nyantakyie, Acting Chairman of the GFA believes the problem will soon be over following the impending discussions with a British Kits manufacturing company, Umbro.

He is of the view that even though the package is for the national senior side, the other teams stand the chance of benefiting from the deal.
