Fresh from leading his beloved Real Tamale United (RTU) gain promotion back into Ghanaian top flight football, Gargo Mohammed has sworn that the ‘Pride of the North’ are here to stay forever.
The 1991 U-17 World Cup winning midfielder took charge of RTU in a bid to rescue the club’s dwindling form during the closing stages of the 2010/11 Glo Ghana Premier League season. It proved too late as Gargo could not help the ‘Pride of the North’ avoid their first demotion since joining the nation’s top football division in 1978.
A wounded Gargo vowed to bring them back without delay and demanded RTU chiefs to give him the job full time. After doing just that at the very first try and back in the big time, Gargo intends to make RTU the top Premier League hotshots they once were.
“You know very well that I played myself to make sure we qualified back into the Premier League because it was very important for the future of RTU. Without coming back, things will become very difficult for us,” the former Udinese of Italy player told 90 MINUTES.
Gargo added: “People will lose interest in the club ever coming back again which will be a heavy blow. Look at clubs like Eleven Wise and Bofoakwa Tano and see they are suffering in the wilderness. Look at how Dwarfs, so I didn’t want that to happen to us. I’m glad because it was my whole agenda and management gave me the chance to fully operate. And we have successfully done it,” Gargo has revealed to 90 MINUTES.
