Ghanaian youth midfielder Gershon Koffie scored a sensational 35 yarder for Vancouver Whitecaps as they drew 2-2 with Seattle Sounders in the United States Major Soccer League on Saturday night.
The 22-year-old scored in the 66th minute to hand Vancouver a 2-1 lead but the visitors grabbed a late-minute goal to defray Koffie’s lead.
Erik Hurtado scored in the 36th minute to cancel out Chad Barrett’s opener three minutes earlier before Koffie scored from a goalkeeping clanger to register his first goal of the season.
The 2011 Ghana U20 midfielder intercepted a kick from the Seattle keeper and hammered home a powerful volley from 35 yards which beat the committed Stefan Frei.
In an effort to keep the ball in play, Frei ventured way out of his net and booted a clearing attempt up the middle instead of safely up the sideline. Koffie pounced on the ball and scored into the vacated goal.
Koffie got booked in the 43rd minute for a bad foul on Seattle player.
