Ghalca wants mid-week matches cancelled

Accra, Aug 26 GNA - The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has asked the Professional League Board (PLB) to consider cancelling all mid-week matches because they have become a financial drain on the clubs.

Mr Kudjo Fianoo, Administrative Secretary of GHALCA, speaking to "Clubs that play mid week at home are always condemned to having small crowds attending all their matches," he said.

Mr Fianoo was not happy with the way that Ghana Football Association (GFA) Management Board has been usurping the powers of the PLB especially in declaring the 17 week matches outstanding but allowing the 18 week matches to go on as scheduled.

He said the GFA actions are in direct contravention of an agreement reached between GHALCA and the PLB on July 15 where they decided on the revised league fixtures.

"We are reliably informed that the PLB was not consulted when the GFA took the decision and if that is true, then serious questions need to be asked as to who is running the league.

He said Ghalca is not happy with the present situation and are asking the GFA to consider the postponed midweek matches being honoured on Sunday instead of leaving it hanging.

Mr Fianoo however asked the GFA to consider compensating the clubs financially in case it decide to go ahead with its plans because most of the clubs have already spent money to organize themselves for the postponed matches.

He said should the GFA not listen to their demands Ghalca would come out with its next line of action but for now he hopes that the issue would be settled amicably since the two bodies have a scheduled meeting on Wednesday.
