Ghana 2008 volunteers program commences

Accra, Sept. 10, GNA - The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of Ghana 2008 has begun the process for the registration of interested Ghanaians to be recruited to serve as volunteers for the championship. The Volunteer Programme, established as a major component of the 26th edition of the biennial event is open to all Ghanaians as well as other residents in Ghana who have the desire to contribute to the success of the tournament and at the same time "serve a good and noble cause."

Magnus Rex Danquah Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LOC, said the VOLU 2008 recruitment starts with the collection of the application forms and filling in the relevant information required. The forms which have "individual signs peculiar to that of every applicant are to be obtained from any of the offices of the four Venue Organizing Committees (VOC)s of the Ghana 2008 ACN, and National Service Secretariats in Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi -Takoradi, and Tamale. "Beginning Monday September 10, 2007 all interested individuals who have the desire to be part of the ACN volunteer scheme will be required to apply for consideration only at the venues where they reside," Mr. Danquah announced.

According to the LOC, the registration will run until September 17, 2007, "after which the successful applicants will be expected to make themselves available for two days of training and orientation." The COO indicated that a significant part of the training of the volunteers will come from the trial matches that have been arranged to test the stadia and the facilities that have been provided for the tournament. "Such training opportunities should definitely empower the volunteers to give their best throughout the duration of the entire tournament," he said.

He said the LOC expected "willing Ghanaians of all walks of life to participate in the programme, but particularly from among the youth for self-motivation, self-discipline, and self-fulfillment. "It is our desire to engage Ghanaian residents in various capacities that identify them in a concrete way with the aspirations of the nation."
