Ghana FA gifts Kotoko $30,000 for Africa troubles

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved a $30,000 cash support to League Champions Asante Kotoko despite their failed attempt to recapture their past glory in the on-going CAF Champions League, Footy-Ghana.com can exclusively reveal.

Asante Kotoko were booted out of the competition by Algeria’s JSM Bejaia on the away goal rule after a 1-1 aggregate in the 1/16th round of the competition. Kotoko were thus eliminated after four games in the competition.

Foot-Ghana.com understands that the team’s failure to progress to the next stage of the competition has negatively impacted on the coffers of the club hence the decision by the Ghana FA to approve a $30,000 grant to lessen the debt stock created by their decision to compete in Africa.

Confirming the news, Asante Kotoko Executive Chairman Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong expressed the club’s appreciation of the Ghana FA’s kind gesture saying, “Yes, we thank the Ghana FA for approving $30,000 to defray part of the debt we incurred in our unsuccessful Africa campaign.”

The Ghana FA also recently provided a $20,000 cash support to New Edubiase United ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup tie with Congo’s Diables Noirs but the Bekwai-based club were shown the exit from the competition in that very tie.
