The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the Black Stars will play the Pharaohs of Egypt in an international friendly next month. The match which is expected to fine-tune both sides for the impending African/World Cup qualifiers, would be played in the Egyptian capital city of Cairo on Sunday February 11.

The second round of the qualifying series for the CAN 2010 and the World Cup 2010 slated for Angola and South Africa respectively would begin in March, with Ghana battling Benin in Cotonou while Egypt clash with Zambia. Ghana is drawn in group five together with Benin, Mali and Sudan.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, GFA Boss explained that Ghana chose Egypt ahead of Nigeria because the Egyptians provided a better offer than the West Africans.

Speaking on a CITI FM Sports programme, Fred Pappoe, Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee said the Egyptians would offer the Stars a better game since most of their players are in top shape.

“We Chose the Egyptians on a number of reasons and we know they would provide us with a better preparation before we trek to Cotonou to battle the Squirrels of Benin in the opening game of the second phase of the African Nations Cup/World Cup qualifying series.”
