GHANA

Kingson – 7.0 – Serbia struggled to test the Ghanaian goalkeeper, who did make one sharp tip over the top from a Krasic shot. Otherwise enjoyed a pretty quiet evening.

Pantsil – 7.5 - The first mission of the full-back was to secure his flank, which he did impressively in the first half, allowing him to push on with increased frequency and meaning in the second. Provided a useful attacking outlet and was strong defensively.

Vorsah – 7.0 - Tasked with the challenge of marking Zigic, the 21-year-old performed his chore well. Did pick up a first half booking for a clumsy and needless challenge from behind. One lapse in concentration after the interval was nearly costly, but was otherwise strong.

Mensah – 8.0 – What a rock in the center of the defense! Showed his maturity and leadership skills throughout, playing an intelligent and strong game as his side’s keystone.

Sarpei – 7.0 - Nullified the threat of Krasic when he was released down the Serbian right but spent much of his energy performing this chore. The veteran full-back was disciplined, and that’s exactly what was required.

Tagoe – 7.5 - A powerful runner down the right flank, Tagoe tested the Serbian defence when he was unleashed. Used increasingly as the match went on, the Hoffenheim man can be delighted with his contribution.

Annan – 7.5 - Declared by some as the next Michael Essien, the bulldog-like midfielder enjoyed a strong first half. Ever committed in the challenge and seemingly possessing boundless energy, he also found the time to unleash a fierce long range volley that went just wide.

K-P Boateng – 7.0 – A busy presence in the center of midfield, which he helped control for the Ghanaians. Was involved in many of their best attacking movements, and a measured first half cross wasn’t far away from being knocked home by Gyan.

Ayew – 7.5 - The Marseille winger, who spent last season on loan with Ligue 2 side Arles, really showed his potential in the first half. Gave Ivanovic a real roasting at times, delivering a succession of dangerous centers from the left flank. Missed a glaring chance after the interval, when he faded a little due to the rise of Tagoe on the right.

Asamoah – 7.5 - Played a withdraw role just behind lone striker Gyan and proved tough to pick up at times. Was the instigator of many of Ghana’s best chances early on, driving a dangerous low center into the box that was only just scrambled clear and posing issues with his set pieces. Taken off with 15 minutes remaining.

Gyan – 7.5 – The striker rarely allowed the Serbian defense any time to settle, disrupting them with his determination. Linked play well during the first period and will be given the status of national hero after showing commendable bottle to slam home from the penalty spot.

Substitutes

Appiah – 6.0 – Used the ball intelligently during his brief 20 minute cameo.

Addy – n/a – Came on deep into stoppage time.

Owusu-Abeye – n/a – Was given even less time than Addy.
