Accra, Mar 3, GNA - Ghana Telecom, (GT) communications service providers have taken over the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top Four competition, slated for March 12.

The tournament, which is in its fifth year, has therefore been branded, "One Touch Top Four Competition", named after one of the products of the company.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, King Faisal and new entrants, Berekum Arsenals would be vying for the prestigious trophy. GT is investing One billion cedis into the competition. The company would generally be committing 700 million cedis in cash with 300 million cedis for additional support.

Other sponsors of the competition are Coca Cola Ghana Limited, who have attained the rights as official beverage sponsors while First Atlantic Bank are the co-sponsors.

The communication providers become the third major firm to win the rights to sponsor the competition, which has become one of the lucrative events on the local scene.

Mr Philip Sowah, Chief Operations Officer of One Touch Services of the Ghana Telecom, said the company finds football a natural ally to associate with, since they are in a business of linking people everywhere.

He said the company decided to invest in the competition to prevent it from losing its steam because of the World Cup. "The World Cup will come and go but the local tournament will always be with us and without the local tournament the passion of the nation cannot be sustained".

Mr Sowah, however, expressed the hope that the unfortunate incident that occurred in last year's competition will not be repeated. Mr Joseph Yaw Appiah, Chairman of GHALCA said they have learnt useful lessons from the previous editions and will make the needed corrections in the impending event.

He called on all stakeholders to help make the event a successful one.
