National U-23 the ‘Dream Team IV’ first choice goalkeeper Ambrose Vanzekin, has declared that the Black Meteors of Ghana would find his side a different proposition when both sides meet on Sunday in their opening Olympic qualifiers group stage game in Abuja. Vanzekin who helped the Flying Eagles to a silver medal finish at the 2005 World Youth Championship in Holland, told Homebase Media that the Ghanaians would fail in their second visit to the country in less than four months.
“They came here some months back and got a draw against us,” Vanzekin said.
“This time around they would go back empty handed. The team is fully prepared and we have trained well with our coaches for this game.
“There is no way Ghana wouldn’t fail, as long as God is on our side,” he added.
With the late arrival of over 15 foreign-based players coach Samson Siasia invited to beef up the team, Vanzekin still believes the players’ lateness wouldn’t count much against the team.
“These players are fit and we’ve all played together.
“Yes they came into camp late, but they would still be able to get the coaches instructions well. I believe we have the team to beat the Ghanaians this time around and we also have some couple of players they haven’t seen play before for the team,” Vanzekin, the young and agile goalkeeper of the U-23 side said.
The Black Meteors of Ghana stopped the U-23 side from making the All Africa Games finals, after drawing them 1-1 in Abuja in February. The Ghanaians actually scored first in the encounter through captain Michael Helegbe and went ahead to win the tie on away goals rule.
