Thomas Keinate, a popular South African sports journalist has tipped Ghana to win the 2013 African Cup of Nations ongoing in South Africa. The SuperSports producer who was at the Black Stars press conference said Ghana has always been favourites and the Black Stars can grab their fifth cup if they concentrate and remain focused on the tournament being played in his country.
He confessed that he had been a fan of Ghana and always wondered why Ghana fails when it mattered most.
Kweinate noted that the Black Stars have great players and they can outwit any strong opposition whenever they want. He was however sad that some key players like the Ayew brothers were left out of the team and quizzed coach Maxwell Konadu about the criteria used in selecting the team. He was answered that the simple criteria was discipline, commitment and regular play at club level. He was however not satisfied with the answer as he believed players with exceptional qualities are what is need to make super stars.
He said Ghana has always produced great players and prayed that the 2013 African Cup will produce great stars for Ghana. He noted that very known stars like Asamoah Gyan and others have not lived up to expectation, but as the tournament improves he hopes to see the best players in action. Kweinate said most South Africans are not pleased with the output of the national team of South Africa, the Bafana Bafana because they did not qualify but relied on the withdrawal of former hosts, Libya to host the tournament. He wished that South Africa will play Ghana in the grand final.
