Ghana face Cape Verde in Integration Cup competition

Accra, July 29, GNA - Ghana has been paired against Cape Verde in Group 'B' of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Under-20 Tournament scheduled for the Len Clay Stadium, Obuasi in September, this year. The tournament dubbed "Integration Cup" will see the other group members, Senegal sorting things out with Niger in a match also fixed at the same venue between September 11-16. Group A, which will be hosted by Cote d' Ivoire will see three other countries, Benin, Gambia and Mali vying for honours.

According to the pairings, winners of each Group and the best of the two runners up in each Group, will join host nation Nigeria for the final phase of the tournament in October. The tournament is in commemoration of the 30th Anniversary celebration of (WAFU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Mr Fred Pappoe, Management Member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said at a press conference in Accra on Friday that each host nation is supposed to cater for the cost involved in the organisation of the tournament. Mr Pappoe gave the assurance that the FA has received the commitment of the government to shoulder the cost. He announced that a local organising committee has been formed to see to the general organisation of the mini tournament.

Members of the Committee include Mr Kwesi Nyantakyie, acting Chairman of the GFA, Fred Pappoe and Aloysious Denkabe, management members of the GFA, Alhaji Sly Tetteh, Chairman of Liberty Professionals, Mr J.Y. Appiah, Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and Kofi Nsiah and Kweku Ampem Darko, General Secretary and Deputy General Secretary of the GFA respectively. The rest are Mr Andy Sam, Chief Executive of Ashgold and three nominees from the Ministry of Education and Sports.
