Ghana misses out of first CAF grant

Ghana has to wait a while for her share of a special grant from football?s world governing body designed to help improve the quality of competition in the local leagues in Africa.

The Ghana Football Association has been left out of the list of affiliated national associations selected by the Confederation of African Football as beneficiaries of the $100,000 grant.

CAF has been charged to provide the money from its yearly $2.5 million grant from FIFA.

Guinea Bissau, Botswana, Eritrea, Niger, Djibouti, Cape Verde, Gambia, Central Africa, Malawi, Rwanda, Chad, Sao Tome and Togo are the countries that will benefit from the first trunch of the funds.

The continental body has indicated that thirteen countries will receive the grant every year, in order to ensure that the entire continent is covered over the estimated four-year period.

CAF?s Executive Committee, at a meeting in June last year, decided to launch the grant as final assistance program to ease the financial burdens of all its affiliated national associations.
