Ghana's Milo U-13 champions grab silver in South Africa

Accra, May 11, GNA - Ghana's representatives at the Milo U-13 Africa Soccer Championship, Mpintsin AME Zion Primary School produced a brave performance to clinch the silver medal at the just ended juvenile tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Mpintsin AME finished the competition on 10 points, after they lost to their Nigerian counterparts 2-4 on penalties of the competition that took place from May 4-10 in the South African capital.

The Ghanaian champions after beating Nigeria 1-0 in the preliminaries, drew 0-0 with host country, South Africa and Kenya, before squeezing past Cote d'Ivoire 2-0 in the semi final stage.

Ghana's Jerry Aidoo's exceptional display won him the 'Most Valuable Player' Award in the competition that attracted countries like Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria and host South Africa. Kenya was disqualified for parading over aged players.

Coach Nii Nortey Ashie Kotei praised the organizers of the competition, Nestle Ghana Ltd (Milo) for their initiative of tapping the talents of the youth.

"This exercise has offered the players an opportunity to strive to greater heights in their soccer careers", he noted. The team is expected in the country on Tuesday night. 11 May 10
