Ghana squad for AFCON qualifier out

Assistant Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has named his squad for next month’s 2012 African Nations Cup qualifying game against Sudan.

A 20-man squad was today released by the coach as the 2012 CAN qualifiers resumes in Ghana’s first game since Milovan Rajevac left his post.


Two uncapped local players Emmanuel Clottey and Seth Owusu are included in the squad with the Black Stars playing their first game at home after the 2010 World Cup finals.


Captain John Mensah returns to the squad after missing the opening group game against Swaziland while Jordan Ayew earns a second call up.


Ghana plays the Sudanese on October 10 in the second Group I game in Accra after getting off the campaign to a perfect start, winning 3-0 away to Swaziland in Lombamba.


The Black Stars, losing finalist in the last tournament are aiming for a place in the finals of the competition to be co-hosted by Gabon/ Equatorial Guinea. The group also includes Congo.
