Ghatel/Athleta set for knockout showdown on Sunday

Accra, Dec 13, GNA - Ghatel Ladies and Athleta Ladies are set for an envisaged gruelling encounter when the two teams cross swords in the grand finale of the annual Greater Accra Women's Soccer Committee (GAWSOC) knockout pencilled for the Ohene Djan Stadium on Sunday, December 18. The two teams are expected to translate their impressive running in the league into a game, which many imaging could easily get down to the wire.

Ghatal, consistent victors of the competition are favoured against the relatively inexperienced but enthusiastic team from Ashaiman who are making a debut final appearance. Incredibly enough, Athleta with only a game to go in the league trail their opponents by eight points and have a great reason to fight for the ultimate as a consolation on Sunday. The uncrowned league champions whose track record makes them a clear favourite would obviously be parading their array of stars who remain an envy and headache of their opponents. Expecting to man the post is their reliable Gladys Nti who over the years has defied age by relying heavily on experience with performances that has always ensured a place in the national team, the Black Queens.

High flying Athleta's Tahiru Aminatu, whose striking prowess has aided the team this far, would also come up against a Ghatel defence of disciplined Aminatu Ibrahim and Hamdia Abass and others, whose amazing composer remain their greatest strength at the rear during the season. Expecting to parade a good blend of their local and foreign recruited players, Athleta, still chasing their first major silver wear would have their match in tried and tested players like creative midfielder, Adjoa Bayor, Florence Okoe and Sheila Okine, all former recipients of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Female Footballer of the Year awards.

Bayor, 2003 winner of the MTN Africa's Female Best Footballer would be expected to coordinate a smooth midfield capable of delivering the right supplies to the attacking trio of Gloria Foriwaa, clinical finisher, Afi Dede Amenuku and Dinah Ankomah to cause the desired damages.
