Accra Hearts of Oak Board Member Frank Nelson has confirmed captain Reuben Gnagne requested to leave the club.

The player was believed to be unhappy with current happenings at the club and wanted to move on to newer things but Mr Nelson said the player may have only reacted out of anger to a bad situation.

“In times of anger, people speak and say a lot of things that deep down they don’t intend. Even the Good Book says we should be cautious [about] what we say. I believe as a young man he acted in a way he felt was best, but maybe he has not been pleased with a situation which upon reflection he will realise he hasn’t reacted well to,” Mr Nelson told Class Sports.

He, however, debunked reports that the Ivorian defender had already been offered a new one-year contract by the club.

“I can say categorically that we have not offered him any new deal yet. Any report about a deal for now is untrue but I can also tell you that we are at the negotiating table working to come to an agreement,” Mr Nelson stated, adding: “At the end of the day, he is like our son, and he knows what he means to the club. I compare his situation to Wayne Rooney who has in the past had some contractual issues with Manchester United but you know, at the end of the day, he will sign for United. I am sure Reuben will sign.”
