Tarkwa (W/R) March 18, GNA - Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL) has prepared a sports package of about 270 million cedis a year for three years to support Real Tarkwa United (RTU), a Tarkwa based football club. The package includes engaging of a sports company to put in place the necessary structures of the Club and identify other areas that needs to be focussed upon towards the maintenance of the team.
Dr. Anthony Aubynn, Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Manager of GFGL said this at a press conference at Tarkwa.
He said GFGL has been focusing on education, health care and promotion of other infrastructure development in the township and that it is the time for the company to extend its assistance to support the passion of the people.
Dr Aubynn said since the demise of Gold Stars from the Premiership there has not been a first class team in the area thus depriving the people from watching Premier league matches.
He said since Real Tarkwa United is the only first division team in the town that has the potential of playing in the Premiership there was the need for all to support it to mature.
The Public Relations Manager, however, called on the executives of the Club to put in place measures that would ensure that the team lives up to expectation so that GFGL's assistance would not be in vain. Dr Aubynn in response to questions as to whether GFGL would run the affairs of the club, he replied in the negative adding that the company's contribution is to help in the re-organisation of the team to become more professional and to ensure that it stands on its own. He said GFGL would also compliment the effort of the District Assembly to put in shape the existing sports infrastructure that is in shambles.
Mr. Tamimu Mubashir Dari, Human Resource Superintendent of the company said with the initial intervention of GFGL it would be expected that the team put's in extra effort to join the elite teams as an encouragement to GFGL to continue with its support.
