Goldfields Opponent's trophy pledge

Africa Sports are desperate to make up for losing the Ivory Coast title for a second year running by clinching a continental title.

President Lasina Dore pledged his faith in coach Christian Zermatten ahead of the club's clash against Goldfields Obuasi of Ghana in the CAF Cup quarter-final.

He said: "We promised our supporters that we would win at least one trophy this year. I have a feeling the CAF Cup will be resting in our vault in December. We have the right attitude to do well in this championship." It has been nine years since Africa Sports won the African Winners Cup, in which time they have been overshadowed by rivals ASEC. But after dismissing Algeria's Mouloudia in the previous round, Dore feels the side's chances are high.

"There are indeed some giants like JSK and Etoile du Sahel still in the race," he said. "But I don't believe they are better than us." The quarter-finals of the African Cup Winners Cup and CAF Cup coincide with the African Champions League Third Round this weekend.
