Goldfields supporters union elect new officers

Obuasi (Ashanti Region) - Supporters Union Obuasi Goldfields sporting club has elected new executive officers at its third annual delegates congress at the Ashanti Goldfields Company (AGC) clubhouse at Obuasi.

The 10-member executive committee is headed by Alhaji Sani Mohamed with Mr James Oduro as vice-chairman, Mr Issifu Mohamed, secretary, Mr John Ampofo, treasurer, Mr Yaw Dapaah, organiser, Mr Valentine Oporrah, financial secretary and prince Osei Bonsu, public relations officer.

In a speech, Alhaji Mohamed expressed gratitude to the supporters for entrusting him and his executives the mandate to manage the affairs of the union. He called financial contributions from members to give the club a sound financial base so that the players would be properly looked after to give of their best.

He said there is the need to improve player-supporter relationship as well as supporter-management relationship he said, and promised to work tirelessly towards the achievement of that objective. Mr Ernest Buanya Mensa, outgoing national chairman of the supporters union, thanked the supporters for the good decision made and promised his unflinching support to the newly-elected executive committee.

He also thanked the club's management board and the supporters for their cooperation and advice during his term of office. In a related development, the supporters union has sent a six-point resolution to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) aimed at making the second round of the premier league incident-free and interesting.

The resolution, which was signed by Mr Osei Bonsu, the PRO of the union, called for a stop to the practice whereby the so-called big clubs are given preferential treatment in assigning match officials. The union called on the disciplinary committee of the GFA to be pragmatic in its dealings with clubs and to give opportunity to every club to be heard when dealing with complaints against them.
