Obuasi, Aug. 3, GNA - The management of Obuasi Goldfields Sporting Club are calling on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take a second look at the manner in which Berekum Arsenals fraudulently registered Anthony Osei of Neoplan Stars for the Kinapharma Premier League in order to bring sanity into the local league.
Captain (Rtd) Andy Sam, Chief Executive of Goldfields, urged the GFA and all football loving people at a press conference to condemn any act likely to bring the game into disrepute.
Goldfields are angry at GFA's decision to credit Arsenals with three points and three goals when the two sides clashed in their first week Premier League match at Obuasi on grounds that Goldfields' Yaw Owusu was unqualified.
The Miners argument is that Arsenals do not deserve to be awarded with the points because they did not only field an unqualified player (Anthony Osei) in that match but also forged documents to get Osei registered.
Capt Sam alleged that the Chairman of Arsenals had confessed that he forged documents in order to get Osei registered adding that the Chairman had contacted a club to put pressure on Neoplan Stars not to contest the case.
Asked why Goldfields did not lodge a protest earlier, the Chief Executive said "we became aware after the time to lodge the protest had elapsed".
He said even though the time for lodging the protest has elapsed, Goldfields would pursue the matter because of the criminality involve. Goldfields' action is sequel to an interview Mr J. Abbey Pobee, Chairman of Neoplan Stars granted Kapital Radio in Kumasi recently. In the interview, Mr Pobee alleged that Neoplan wrote to the Professional League Board and copied Berekum Arsenals in June, this year objecting to the registration of Anthony Osei.
The letter said the player was loaned to Arsenals last year for just one season and after the period Neoplan expects that the Berekum club would come for renegotiation and not to hijack Osei. 03 Aug, 2003
