Accra, April 22, GNA - Ghana will send a support delegation of 2,600 persons to South Africa for the South Africa 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The delegation to be made of supporters and fans, politicians, the clergy, students, media and the general public are to provide maximum support towards ensuring a successful campaign of the Black Stars at the World Cup.

Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Youth and Sports announced this during the launch of a fundraising campaign and website in Accra on Thursday for the first ever World Cup to be staged on African soil.

She noted that since it is the aim of Government to ensure that as many people as possible make the trip to cheer on the Stars to make a positive impact, the World Cup Committee has launched the fundraising campaign to raise enough financial resources towards the successful execution of the project.

The Minister said Government will be responsible for the airfare, accommodation, feeding and the acquisition of match tickets for the members of the support team.

The fundraising campaign she said is to relief Government off the entire financial burden for the smooth execution of the plan.

Ms Dansua observed the importance of physical and moral support in the quest of the Black Stars to go farthest at the 11 June - 11 July 2010 tournament.

The World Cup Committee is expected to postulate criteria for the selection of persons into the support team.

The Stars are drawn in Group D alongside Australia, Germany and Serbia at the World Cup.

The Stars will kick off their campaign at the Group Stage against Serbia at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria then engage Australia six days later at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg before wrapping up against Germany on June 23 at the Soccer City in Johannesburg.
