Bekwai (Ash), Nov 12, GNA-Work on the five billion-cedi Gyamfi Park redevelopment project spearheaded by the Asante-Bekwai Traditional Council is progressing steadily.

The project being implemented in phases, involves building of a fence wall, improvement of the pitch and the construction of dressing rooms and stands.

The Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) is providing the technical support.

Already, more than 200 million cedis had been spent on the fence wall with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Amansie East District Assembly contributing between them 80 million cedis. Mr Peter Kofi Owusu,a member of the Bekwaiman Development Committee, the body set up by the council to oversee the implementation of the project, said the remaining amount came from the community's own resources.

He was receiving 100 bags of cement and cash of 500,000 cedis donated by Mr Kofi Mensah, a citizen of Bekwai resident in the United States (US) in support of the Park project.

Mr Owusu said the redevelopment activity was being funded mainly from fund-raising harvests and voluntary contributions.

Mr Mensah said he was inspired to make the donation by what he described as the "fantastic job" so far done by the committee. He promised to liaise with other citizens of the area based in the US to mobilise more resources to complement the development efforts of the people back home.

Mr Mensah noted that through unity of purpose, mutual understanding and co-operation, a lot could be achieved to face-lift Bekwai.

Meanwhile, the Nkosuohene of Bekwai, Nana Siaw Ankobea, together with four others based in the US have donated a large quantity of patient's under-pads to the Bekwai Government Hospital. Mr Samuel Dodzie, the Hospital Administrator, who received the items, said they were grateful and that they would ensure that the items were used exclusively for the comfort of patients.
